During Michael Mascaro’s storied construction career, he’s witnessed the evolution of technological advancements throughout the industry.
“We’ve gone from people performing manual labor to maximizing use of the global positioning systems that we have on our equipment,” Michael said. “It makes the job easier and quicker, but it also presents new challenges. And that’s what keeps me going.”
Michael remains optimistic about the future of the construction industry, despite challenges that come his way.“I think the future is bright,” Michael said. “We’re always going to need buildings and infrastructure, and I think the technology that we have today will continue to make the industry better and more efficient.”
As a construction supervisor at Sunroc, Michael has spent over 30 years in the industry. “I initially went to work for a contractor building the Salt Lake International Airport to pay tuition for school,” Michael said. “I realized that the work paid pretty well, so I’ve been involved in some facet of the industry ever since.”
During his time at Sunroc, Michael has shown a dedication and willingness to teach and guide his team members. It’s the people that keep him here, and his interactions with others have not gone unnoticed.
“Michael is an excellent employee, and I’ve been impressed with his attitude and willingness to help out his colleagues,” said Jeremy Black, General Superintendent at Sunroc. “One of his greatest strengths is his ability to motivate and push others to meet deadlines and stay on schedule. His positive attitude and strong work ethic make him an invaluable member of our team.”
Despite inherent labor shortages, Sunroc is making an effort to help attract new team members by being the gold standard of construction industry companies. “Getting people to come into the industry is a huge challenge for us,” Michael said. “But Sunroc is making sure it stands out in the crowd as an excellent employer through its benefits and values. 90% of the job is being present, on time, and working hard to keep learning.”
Michael is proud of the work that he does and the challenging projects that he’s worked on to help in Building a Better Community “I love that I’m not stuck in the office all day every day,” Michael said. “I get to work outside, watching stuff being built and get transformed. Getting the job done in difficult situations is always rewarding.”
Michael’s expertise has earned him respect in the industry, and his ability to adapt to change and embrace technology makes him a valuable asset to Sunroc. As technology continues to revolutionize the industry, he is sure to continue “Building Confidence” while learning to thrive in the ever-evolving world of construction.
