When Jayden Cowan first started working at the Sunroc block plant in St. George, Utah, he didn’t know just how important the job would be in starting his career. He soon found himself surrounded by a supportive team of colleagues who made him feel welcome and appreciated.

“I really found that I enjoyed the work that I did every day,” Jayden said. “So, after moving north with my wife for school, I decided to stay with the company and transfer to the Bluffdale location.”

Jayden works full time as a masonry associate while continuing to pursue a degree in computer science. Despite his busy schedule, he still finds time to chat with his father, Scott Cowan, the Bluffdale location manager, at the end of each day.

“His office is just right down the hall,” Jayden said. “He’s been in the industry for nearly 30 years, so he has a lot of experience and advice to offer. It’s cool to be able to work with him. He’s always had quite the work ethic, and he’s taught me well.”

Jayden’s passion for his work of Building a Better Community is contagious. Employees such as Art Condie, Masonry Operations Manager, have taken notice of his dedication.

“He’s always the first one to say, ‘How can I help? What can I do?’” Art said. “He’s taking on all kinds of responsibilities that he wouldn’t normally need to worry about, but he’s been willing to do it. He’s really capable, retains things quickly, and is very willing to learn. I haven’t seen him do anything that he hasn’t done well. I’ll tell you what, I wouldn’t mind cloning him for his work ethic alone.”

Despite the praise, Jayden would prefer the credit for success be given to his coworkers.

“I really enjoy the people that I get to interact with every day,” Jayden said. “My coworkers are amazing. They are such great examples to me. If there’s ever something that I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around, someone is there to help me through. Everyone is friendly here.”

One of the things that sets Sunroc apart from other companies is its culture of caring and “Building Confidence,” and Jayden has certainly found that to be true.

“They truly care about their employees here,” Jayden said. “They care about their customers. They care about quality. It’s not just about making money; it’s about doing it in the right way, and I like that.”

As a primarily family-owned and operated company, Sunroc believes in providing opportunities for growth and development, encouraging their employees to pursue their passions, and fostering a culture of caring. Jayden is a shining example of what can be achieved when these values are put into action.

“I would love to stay here for as long as I can,” Jayden said. “I want to see this company continue to grow, and wherever they see fit for me along the way, I’d be more than happy to step up to the plate.”
